Obituary: Gregory “Greg” Im

Gregory “Greg” Im
WOOLWICH – With great sadness, the Im and Locke families share the passing of Gregory “Greg” Im of Woolwich, on Oct. 11, 2026.
Born on Sept. 23, 1965, Greg grew up in Timonium, Md., and attended Dulaney High School before graduating from Cornell University in 1987 and the University of Maine School of Law in 2009. After college, Greg traveled extensively throughout the U.S., visiting 47 of its 50 states. Eventually leaving the road, he settled in Maine with his wife, Courtney Locke, where they built a life farming, restoring a 200-year-old farmhouse, and enjoying a quiet life with their children, Will and Tallulah.
A lifelong master of reinvention, Greg moved seamlessly through roles and careers during his life – from child-college student and pianist to master carpenter, rock and roll roadie, flower farmer, and exceptional home chef. All that, and he still managed a day job! At the time of his death, Greg was a partner at Drummond Woodsum law firm, where he served as the head of the Public Finance Group, working in municipal and school law.
New skills came easily to Greg. He could install bathroom plumbing and prepare a Michelin star-worthy meal with little more than a Sunset how-to plumbing book, a 10-inch chef’s knife, and the conviction that “If a guy named Earl can do it, then so can I.” He approached every challenge with thoughtfulness and quiet determination, whether he was single-handedly replacing a load-bearing wall with a half-ton steel beam for his demanding wife, or building a backyard waterpark with PVC pipe and hoses for his son. He could sew a plush flying squirrel costume for his daughter, then turn around and style a 15-person, winter-themed dinner party for his in-laws – with an hour’s notice and nothing on hand but evergreen fronds, candles, and confectioners’ sugar. Greg could do it all and do it well.
Greg was singularly smart, funny, creative, and curious, and he valued his family, close friends, a great meal, privacy, and a good laugh above all else. He loved an inside joke and would ride it for years. He loved great guitar solos, math, cooking for family and friends, precise language, Maine, and building beautiful things. He hated arrogance, inefficiency, and dishonest fries.
Despite his exceptional skills and many accomplishments, Greg remained humble and kind throughout his life. He adored his family, friends, and colleagues, always acting to improve their lives. He was a born giver, and he gave freely and without expectation, wanting only to delight and uplift. In doing so, he made everyone else’s life a little easier, happier, and calmer.
Greg is survived by his wife, Courtney Locke of Woolwich; son, Will Im of Gorham; daughter, Tallulah Im of Portland; parents, Michael and Minja Im of North Ridgefield, Ohio; sister, Kathy Im, and Mark Laschinsky of Halethorpe, Md.; in-laws, William J. Locke of Brunswick, Laura Locke and Paul Mourning of Brooklyn, N.Y., Tracy Locke and Patricio Adams of Bayonne, N.J., Kimberly Locke and Richard Heim of Austin, Texas, and Merrill Lee Jones of Harpswell; five nieces, one nephew, one grand-nephew and two grand-nieces; the Village; and countless family members and friends who mourn his loss and whose lives are better for having known him.
