George A. Fogg, 93, of Auburn, dies after a lifetime of service
AUBURN – George A. Fogg, 93, of Auburn, passed away on May 29, 2026, at Clover Manor, a local care facility. Fogg spent nearly three decades with AT&T’s Long Lines division, a career that followed his graduation from the State Military Vocational Technical Institute (SMVTI) in 1962 after completing high school in 1951.
Born in the small town of Greene on July 15, 1932, Fogg was the son of George E. Fogg and Nellie S. Fogg (Wright). He grew up in a family that valued hard work and community, a tradition he carried throughout his life. After joining AT&T, he dedicated his professional years to ensuring reliable long‑distance telephone service across New England.
Fogg’s personal life was equally rich. He shared 67 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Merlyn C. Fogg, who died before him. The couple’s legacy lives on through their four children: Robert E. Fogg and Karin Fogg of Lewiston, Aric J. Fogg and Andrea Fogg of Auburn. He is survived by four grandchildren—Elijah and Neviana, both of Auburn, and Rowan and Deana of Lewiston—as well as great‑grandson Franklin, also a Lewiston resident.
His burial is scheduled for July 11 at 10 a.m. in New Valley Cemetery, Greene, the town of his birth and longtime family home. The community has been invited to attend and celebrate a life of dedication both to his profession and to his family.
Those wishing to honor Fogg’s memory may make donations in lieu of flowers. Contributions are welcomed by the Cumberland Rifle & Pistol Club Junior Rifle program or the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, organizations that reflect Fogg’s interests in conservation and outdoor activities.
Fogg’s passing is felt across Auburn, Lewiston, and Greene, where his legacy as a dependable employee, devoted husband, and loving family member will continue to resonate.
