Maine Pipefitter Gary Noyes, 69, Dies; Celebrated for His Dedication to Family and Trade

Portland, Maine – Gary T. Noyes, a lifelong Portland resident and proud member of the UA Local 716 Maine Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, died on August 16, 2026, at the age of 69. He was born on September 25, 1956, in Hawthorne, California, and had spent most of his life working as a pipefitter in Maine’s construction industry.

Noyes was a hardworking craftsman whose career was defined by the same dedication and perseverance that earned him the respect of his colleagues. He spent decades installing and maintaining piping systems for residential, commercial, and industrial projects throughout the state, often working long hours to meet deadlines and keep projects on schedule.

A devoted family man, Gary married his longtime partner, Deborah Conley, on December 18, 2009, after many years together. The couple shared more than forty years of love, family, and memories. Gary was also a loving grandfather, known affectionately to his grandchildren as “Bumpy,” and to others in his extended family as “Ga‑Ga.” He cherished simple pleasures such as fishing, camping, and spending time with friends and relatives.

Gary was pre‑deceased by his parents, Donald and Stella Noyes, and his brother‑in‑law, Gilles Marchand. He is survived by a wide circle of loved ones, including his wife Deborah, sister Geraldine Marchand, stepchildren Michele Conley and Tisha Campbell and her husband Dan, as well as their children Sierra Conley, Giavanna, Makenna, and Sophia. His great‑grandchildren, Amina, Jasmine and Kingston, as well as nieces Jessica Marchand and Rachael Woodbury and their families, will also miss him dearly.

A celebration of Gary’s life will be held Friday, September 25, the day he would have turned 70, from 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Bruno’s Restaurant & Tavern on 33 Allen Avenue in Portland. Friends and colleagues are invited to gather for a moment of remembrance, stories, and fellowship.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Maine Journeymen Group, supporting the “Joseph Asali Scholarship.” Contributions can be mailed to:
