Fernand “Fern” Laflamme, 88, of Westbrook, Passes Away After Long Life of Service and Community Involvement
Westbrook, Maine – Fernand “Fern” Laflamme, a longtime resident of Westbrook, died peacefully in his home on Saturday, May 30, 2026, surrounded by family. The 88‑year‑old was born September 29, 1937, to Albert and Marie Laflamme in Biddeford and was one of 12 children.
Laflamme graduated from St. Louis High School in Biddeford in 1956 and served two years in the U.S. Army. After his service he joined First National Grocery, working in the meat department, and it was there that he first met his future wife, Beverly, while on a beach in Old Orchard. The couple married and settled in Winslow, where they raised four children—Rae, Jim, Mike, and Gary—over 37 years.
A lifelong member of the Elks Club for 55 years, Laflamme was also a devoted summer guest at Pleasant Point Campground in Oakland, a place he called home each year for decades. “We made so many memories there,” his daughter Rae said of her father’s summers on the campgrounds.
After Beverly’s death in 1999, Laflamme fulfilled a long‑standing dream of living in Florida. He purchased a new house and lived there for nearly a decade with his close friend Cindy, before deciding to return to Maine in 2025 to be near family during his final years.
He was predeceased by his wife and ten of his siblings. Fern is survived by his eldest sister, Rachel Tourigny; his children—Rae (married to Dan), Jim, Mike (married to Lois), and Gary (married to Jill); and his four grandchildren—Erik, Ryan, Zackary, and Tanner. His family will remember him as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished community and family above all.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church in Biddeford on June 27 at 11 a.m. The burial service will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, with a reception held thereafter at the church.
