Evelyn Augusta Young, Born in Gardiner, Remembered for Devotion to Family and Community
LAKE, Miss. — Evelyn Augusta Young, whose life carried her from her birthplace in Gardiner, Maine, to her final years in Lake, Mississippi, passed away on March 4, 2026, at Ochsner Health Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian, Mississippi. She was 81 years old.
Born on March 27, 1944, in Gardiner, Young spent much of her life in Bowdoin, Maine, before relocating to Lake, Mississippi, six years ago. Her commitment to community was evident in both states. She attended the First Baptist Church in Lake and, while living in Bowdoin, served as president of the Ladies Fireman's Auxiliary, a role that reflected her dedication to local service.
Young's interests ranged widely and reflected a curiosity about the world around her. She enjoyed bus tours, browsing flea markets, and collecting Native American jewelry. Those who knew her described her as warm and vibrant, with a personality that drew people in.
She is survived by her sons, Bradley Young and his wife Tiffany, and Larry Young and his wife Rose; her daughter, Holly Fournier; her daughter-in-law, Diane Pratt; ten grandchildren; and a wide circle of great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bradley Young Sr.; her son, Bryan Pratt; her son-in-law, Dean Cornish; and her sister, Ernell Dubois.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a visitation scheduled for Friday, July 31, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Kincer Funeral Home, located at 130 Pleasant St., Richmond, Maine. A graveside service will follow at noon on Saturday, August 1, at West Bowdoin Cemetery in West Bowdoin, Maine.
