Eileen Flaherty Lee

EAST WATERBORO – Eileen Flaherty Lee, 66, East Waterboro, passed away peacefully at home on Aug. 11, 2026, after a journey with cancer. She was born Nov. 24, 1959, in Chesterton, Indiana, to Paul Patrick and Eileen McGlynn Flaherty. Eileen attended elementary school at St. Patrick’s. She was a member of Chesterton High School class of 1978, and graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington. She began her career as a speech therapist at TradeWinds working with people with special needs. In 1989, Eileen married Gregory Lee and moved to Maine. She began working as a speech therapist at Sacopee Valley Schools. Eileen left this position to raise her children. This was one of Eileen’s favorite periods of her life. She lovingly referred to this timeframe as her “12-year maternity leave”. Once her children started elementary school, she returned to work at Sacopee Valley Schools. She spent many years volunteering with Special Olympics Maine. Eileen enjoyed spending time with family and friends, flower gardening, reading, and traveling. One of her unique hobbies was collecting sea glass during annual summer vacations to Prince Edward Island. Her loved ones will especially miss her quick wit, sense of humor, and amazing story-telling abilities.

Eileen is survived by Greg, her husband of 36 years; and their three children, Alanna (Albin Werweiss) of Gardiner, Marjorie (Ethan) Nobert, and their daughter, Ella, of West Newfield, and Andrew (Isabelle) of Winthrop. Eileen is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Molly Haas of Anchorage, Alaska, James Flaherty of the Philippines, Mary Katherine Hamilton of Chesterton, Paul (Janet) Flaherty of Encino, California, and Marjorie (Thomas) Potter of Chesterton. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Eileen was preceded in death by her parents; brother Dan Flaherty; sister-in-law Judy Flaherty; brother Roy Flaherty; brother-in-law Michael Haas; and nephew James McGlynn Haas.

There will be a celebration of life held in honor of Eileen by family and friends announced at a later date.

Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, Buxton are entrusted with her services.

Memorial contributions may be made to Special Olympics Maine at http://www.somaine.org.
