Dorothy J. White, 88, of Bath, Maine, dies peacefully on August 27

Bath, Maine – Dorothy J. White, an 88‑year‑old lifelong resident of Bath, passed away on August 27, 2026, after a brief illness. The 88‑year‑old reportedly left her home “feet first,” a testament to her independence and spirited nature.

White was born July 2, 1938, the daughter of Mildred L. Lenfest. She spent most of her working life in the insurance industry, holding positions at several agencies before joining Bath Iron Works, where she worked for more than nine years.

A woman of many passions, White enjoyed cooking, camping, reading, traveling, knitting, and cross‑stitching. Her kitchen was a shrine to culinary exploration, and she kept an impressive collection of over 2,000 cookbooks, never willing to part with a volume. She and her late husband, Donald E. White, shared a love of travel, visiting Hawaii and Florida on several occasions. As they aged, they turned their backyard into a private campsite, hosting family gatherings that became a cherished tradition.

White and Donald were married for decades, and her husband predeceased her. Their shared life was described by friends and relatives as “wonderful.”

She leaves behind a large and loving family. Her daughters, Barbara J. Acker (who lives with her husband Mike) and Deborah L. Brey (with husband Bob), survive her. A grandson, Shawn J. Brassard, and his wife Heather also outlive her. Two great‑granddaughters, Dezarae and Sienna Brassard, will remember her fondly. Family members also include her sister Linda Lelansky, brother‑in‑law Stephan White (with wife Marion), and sister‑in‑law Nancy Mitchell.

In accordance with White’s wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Instead, family and friends are invited to raise a gin and tonic in her memory—a nod to her playful spirit. Her final words, “I’m Fine!” were recorded and approved by her prior to her passing.

White’s life touched many in the Bath community, and her legacy of joy, creativity, and family devotion will be felt for years to come.
