Dona Mae Brown, 85, Dies in Bridgton
Bridgton, Maine – September 5, 2026 – Dona Mae Brown, an 85‑year‑old longtime resident of Maine, died peacefully in her home in Bridgton on Friday. Born May 20, 1941, in Livermore Falls, she lived a life marked by steady work, devoted family ties, and a passion for community service.
Brown grew up in a close‑knit family headed by her parents, Donald J. Cloutier and Beatrice E. (Farrington) Cloutier‑Webber. After graduating from South Portland High School, she began a career in insurance and later moved on to the Standish Telephone Company, where she worked until retirement.
A self‑taught potter, avid seamstress and skilled knitter, Brown kept her home impeccably clean and was known for dressing neatly. She enjoyed seasonal travels, spending winters in Arizona, and summers camping along the shores of Lake Pemaquid. A daily walk with her dog, Bentley, was a cherished routine. Her devotion to family earned her the affectionate nickname “Nanny,” and she proudly referred to herself as “Giggles” while receiving care at Woodlands Memory Care.
A lifelong believer, Brown was active in both the South Portland and Sebago Churches of the Nazarene. She led Bible study groups and attended services regularly. Her love of history extended to genealogy and membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Brown predeceased her parents, her daughter Patricia Ange, siblings David Cloutier and Sharon Cushman, and brother‑in‑law Carol Guest. She is survived by children Cynthia Brown and Joseph Brown; sisters Joyce Guest and Nancy Proctor; grandchildren Nick, Ashly, Daryl, Sophia and Thomas; and several great‑grandchildren who will feel her absence deeply.
A memorial service celebrating Brown’s life will take place Monday, September 21 at 3 p.m. in the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel on Route 22 in Buxton. Following the service, she will be buried in Dow’s Corner Cemetery in Standish beside her daughter Patricia.
The family extends special gratitude to the staff at Woodlands Memory Care and the community at Annie’s Way for their companionship and kindness during Brown’s final years.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland, P.O. Box 336, Westbrook, ME 04098, in memory of Dona Mae Brown.
