Obituary: Dawn Ellen Baise

Dawn Ellen Baise, a Maine native who later made her home in Texas, died on May 17, 2026, in Dallas. She was 60.
Born in Bath on March 1, 1966, Baise spent the majority of her life in Maine before relocating to Texas. She was known for her resilience, selfless nature, and a warm spirit that drew people to her. Family and friends often turned to her for advice, encouragement, and support.
Baise owned and operated the Starlight Cafe from 2017 to 2020, serving the community until her retirement. In her leisure time, she enjoyed listening to music, combing beaches for seashells, and cherishing moments with loved ones. She always carried her love for Maine's coastline with her, even after moving to Texas.
Family was central to Baise's life. Her grandchildren affectionately called her "Nini," and she delighted in spoiling them at every opportunity. She is survived by her daughters, Natasha Baise and Breanna Baise; her grandchildren, Addison Mesimer and Wade Baise; her father, Stanley Wright; her sisters, Donna Hays (Mike Hays), Debbie Dodge (Jacob Dodge), and Denise Durgan; and her brother, Danny Wright. She was preceded in death by her mother, Evelyn Moore-Wright, and her husband of many years, Golden "Gene" Baise Jr.
Baise faced her illness with remarkable courage and determination, her family said. She will be remembered for her generosity and unwavering love for those around her.
In accordance with her wishes, a direct cremation was conducted, and no formal services will be held.
