Elderly North Vassalboro resident Christine “Chris” Proctor dies at 89
North Vassalboro, Maine — Christine V. Proctor, an 89‑year‑old longtime resident of North Vassalboro, died peacefully on Tuesday surrounded by family. She was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother who devoted her life to her relatives, friends and the broader community.
Proctor was born to Bert and Florence Farris and spent her childhood in the town’s close‑knit neighborhood. She attended public schools in Portland and began her working life in the 1950s at Fulham Brothers before moving on to Cushman Bakery and, later, Fairchild Semiconductor, where she earned a reputation for diligence and reliability.
She married Sidney Proctor, who survived her by twenty years; he died in 1996. The couple had four children—Scott, Sidney Jr., Mark and Ellen—who each continue to live in Maine and New England. Proctor’s children are married to Jean, Roberta, Layna and Tammy Phillips, respectively. Her siblings include sisters Penny Saucier and Faith Rowe, and brothers Bert Jr., David Cameron and Denzel Grant.
In addition to her children, Proctor was survived by 12 grandchildren and several great‑grandchildren, including granddaughter Heidi Stevens and great‑granddaughter Annalyse Flaherty. She was pre‑deceased by her parents—Bert Farris (1977) and Florence Moseley (1994)—and by her brother‑in‑law Steven Phillips, as well as her daughter Sheila Marshall.
