SCARBOROUGH/GORHAM – Charles Clarence Harrison, Jr. “Chuck” passed away peacefully after a long illness on Aug. 6, 2026.
Chuck was born on March 6, 1952, as the third of five sons to Charlie and Mabel (Allen) Harrison of Freeport. Being one of five boys, Chuck was not averse to engaging in some good, spirited mischief, and like his brothers, loved car racing, both on and off the track.
As a young adult, he went to work painting with his dad and uncle Edward “Let” Harrison at Logan for Painting and then welcomed two daughters, which he was very proud of, into the world. He went on to work for G.H. Stanford Construction for many years as well as on and off for Maietta Construction as an equipment operator.
Chuck found his forever best friend and wife, Janet Hodgdon, and his love of camping later in life and together they traveled the Maine roads visiting various campgrounds throughout the years. There wasn’t a campground, camp mascot, or camp friend that Chuck didn’t like. He and Janet later settled as summer residents at Bayley’s Camping Resort where Chuck worked for many years on the grounds crew. He became a well-known personality at the campground, and everyone loved him! He quickly became friends with the late Tom Bayley and Paul Lessard, and we know today he is reunited with the good ol’ boys having a cold Bud!
Chuck was very social and spent many Saturday nights visiting with family and friends at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway. He was a gifted storyteller and was known for some of his famous words and quips and for example, commonly answering the phone “good n’ you”. He loved to share his past of the most entertaining local stories with his amazingly deep voice and Harrison baby blue eyes while instilling the most dramatic facial expressions as he slapped his knee.
In addition to camping, Chuck also enjoyed gardening and fishing and was always proud of his harvest and catch each year.
Chuck is survived by his wife Janet (Hodgdon) Harrison; two daughters, Tara (Chad) Coffin of Freeport, Carrie (Mark) Bowen of Durham, a stepdaughter, Jaye Mullin of Gorham; four brothers, Robert (Debbie) Harrison, Peter (Ini) Harrison, Richard (Shelly) Harrison of Freeport, Kenneth (Sharon) Harrison of the Forks, and foster sister, Betsey (Steve) Roman of Gray; as well as mother-in-law; and many dear sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Julia, Bailey, Katie, Harrison; and two great-grandchildren, Rylee and Cora; a cousin that he was especially close to, Jerry Harrison. He also has his extended Bayley Camping resort family who grieve alongside us.
Chuck was predeceased by his parents, and a stepson, Jack Mullin.
The family would like to thank Northern Light Mercy Home Health & Hospice for the extraordinary care given to Chuck by Addy and her team. They are truly angels on earth.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Bayley’s Camping Resort, 275 Pine Point Rd., Scarborough, on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 3 to 6 p.m.
