Carolyn F. (Black) Conley
YORK HARBOR – Carolyn F. (Black) Conley, 91, beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away on May 30, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, generosity, integrity, and unwavering care for others.
Born in Portland, Maine, she was the daughter of Thomas F. and Helena I. (Bellefontaine) Black. Carolyn attended Portland schools and graduated from the Cathedral High School in 1953.
Carolyn met the love of her life, Bill, and they married in 1958. Together they raised a family and a life filled with love, in South Portland. She began her career with Ma Bell and later stepped away from work to devote herself to raising her six children. Once her children were grown, she returned to work and eventually retired from Verizon, where she was respected for her dedication and professionalism.
Carolyn was a woman of remarkable character—wise, gentle, elegant, and quick-witted, with a wonderful sense of humor that brought joy to those around her. She loved fashion and always carried herself with grace and style. Even in her final moments, her thoughts were focused on the well-being of others, a reflection of the selfless spirit that defined her life.
For the last five years, Carolyn was a cherished member of her assisted living community at Sentry Hill, in York Harbor, where she formed deep friendships and was loved by residents and staff alike. She, in turn, cared deeply for the community that became her extended family.
Family was the center of Carolyn’s world. She was a proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her love, guidance, and support shaped generations and will continue to be felt for years to come.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill, younger brother Tom, and parents Thomas and Helena, along with many other family members and dear friends whom she loved and missed. We find comfort in imagining the joyful reunion that awaited her and knowing that Bill was there to welcome her home.
Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we celebrate a life beautifully lived. Carolyn’s kindness, strength, laughter, elegance, and love will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew her.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
She is survived by her older brother Richard (Dick); six children, Stacey, Sandy, Lynn, Bill, Catherine and Jennifer; her 19 grandchildren: and 16 great-grandchildren.
A joint service to celebrate the lives of Carolyn and Bill will be held at Central Maine Veterans Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta on Friday, August 7, 2026 at noon concluding with military honors for Bill.
Arrangements are in the care of Dennett, Craig and Pate Funeral Home, Saco.
