Carmel (Russo) Sullivan
GORHAM – Carmel Russo Sullivan of Gorham, Maine, formerly of Avon, West Hartford and Bristol Conn., died on June 26, 2026. She was the wife of the late James M. Sullivan.
Born in Hartford, Conn., the daughter of John B. and Anna T. Russo. Loving mother to Andrea M. Sullivan and her husband Scott Emerson of Bear Valley, Calif., James T. Sullivan and his wife Mary of Chatham, Mass. and Timothy J. Sullivan and his wife Amber of Gorham; devoted grandmother to Tristen and Taylor Sullivan and Shannon Wotring and her husband, Matt, and Megan and Kerry Sullivan.
She was predeceased by sisters Lucille R. Healy of Newington, Conn. and Allegra R. Knight of Sun Lakes, Ariz.
Carmel graduated from Bulkeley High School, Hartford Conn. and Hartford Secretarial School and was employed at Hartford National Bank.
She was an award-winning artist and very much enjoyed classical music, literature and the arts. She was a dedicated community volunteer, a teacher in the St. Gregory Church CCD program and a docent at the American Clock Museum in Bristol, Conn. She also volunteered at the Zion Lutheran Church soup kitchen in Bristol, Conn. She was a member of the Bristol Garden Club and a long-time member of Polymnia Reading Club. Carmel was a faithful communicant at St. Anne’s Church in Gorham.
The family would like to thank the exceptional care givers at the Gorham House for the years of dedicated attention and support Carmel received during her seven years of residence.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Aug. 28, at 10 a.m. at St. Anne’s Church, 299 Main St., Gorham, ME 04038.
