Bernadette “Bernie” Clancy
WESTBROOK – Bernadette “Bernie” Clancy passed away peacefully on Oct. 28, 2026. She was 97 years old.
Born Bernadette Christman on July 13, 1929, to Napoleon and Lucienne (Melancon) Christman, she was a lifelong resident of Westbrook, Maine.
Bernie went to school in Westbrook, graduating from Westbrook High School in 1947. She was trained as a bookkeeper and held several positions, working for the City of Westbrook and as a bank teller.
Bernie married Gerald Clancy in 1952; they raised two boys, Paul, born in 1953 and Peter, born in 1960. Both boys went on to successful careers, Paul in business and Peter as a beloved teacher.
Bernie loved to play cards, especially cribbage. She loved golf, bowling, movies, popcorn and martinis, not necessarily in that order. More than anything, Bernie loved her family.
She is survived by Paul; four grandchildren, Jonathan, Christine, Joel and April; two great-grandsons; and she was a much-loved mother-in-law to Judi and Patty.
Private services will be held in Westbrook.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Bernie’s name to any cause fighting Alzheimer’s
