FALMOUTH – Barbara E. Stevens, 92, of Falmouth, passed away peacefully on Monday July 27, 2026, at Maine Medical Center.

Barbara was born on Jan. 28, 1934, in Falmouth to the late Bradford and Florence Crawford. She graduated from Falmouth High School in 1952. After high school Barbara entered the workforce, working for USF and G.

In 1955 she reconnected with her beloved late husband, Ernest “Ernie” Alling, previously attending school together. After being nominated and selected they were married on a well-known television show called Bride and Groom in 1957 and went on to have four children. Ernie’s career took the family throughout New England; living in Rhode Island when he passed away at the young age of 35. After Ernie’s passing, Barbara and the children packed up and made their way back to Maine where they eventually settled on Hamlin Road in Falmouth, which she proudly called home for the remainder of her life.

Barbara was most proud of her children. After the loss of her husband, she displayed extraordinary strength and resilience as she raised them on her own. With the oldest just nine years old and the youngest only one, she devoted herself wholeheartedly to providing them with a loving home and unwavering support. She was determined that Ernie’s passing would be the most difficult loss they would ever have to endure.

After having successfully raised her four children, Barbara re-entered the workforce working for UnionMutual Life Insurance Company (now Unum) until she took early retirement. She went on to meet Raymond (Ray) Stevens, and they later married in 1984. Together they became snowbirds enjoying their winters in Bradenton, Florida. There they enjoyed a wonderful social life, both were members of the Shriners/Order of the Eastern Star, golfing, bingo and many card games.

Barbara thoroughly enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren, and eventually her great-grandchildren. Gram’s house was a place where they always felt welcomed and loved. She delighted in spoiling the children and always welcomed them with a hug and a secret candy stash waiting.

Barbara was an avid golfer and a longtime member at Riverside Golf Course, where she enjoyed both the game and the friendships she made along the way. She was extremely active and cherished the many friendships she built throughout her life. Barbara loved to stay busy, from bowling in her younger years, to joining her sister Donna and friends on bus trips through the Falmouth Community Program, crafting, gathering around the table for a game of cards, or learning any new game that came her way. Her genuine love for those important to her made her a beloved friend to many.

Besides her first husband Ernie and her parents, Barbara was also predeceased by her second husband, Ray; three brothers, Gordon, Phillip and Sonny Crawford; grandson Kevin Alling; and lifelong childhood friend Marion Davis. Surviving Barbara are her four children, Kathy Chandler of Westbrook, Keith Alling and his wife Kimberly of Falmouth, Kevin Alling of Freeport, and Kenny Alling and his wife Doreen of Saco. She is also survived by a brother Clayton Crawford and sister Donna Wormell; grandchildren, Alicia, Aaron, Kaitlyn, Alex, John, Cameron, Jameson; and seven great grandchildren.

Barbara’s family is welcome to attend a graveside service at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday Aug. 6, 2026, at Blanchard Cemetery in Falmouth; a reception to follow will be open to all at Bruno’s Restaurant and Tavern, Ocean Star Banquet Room, 33 Allen Avenue in Portland from 12 – 4 p.m.
