CAPE ELIZABETH – Andrew W. Blake, 49, passed away Monday, Aug. 3, 2026, as a result of chronic illness, at his home in Cape Elizabeth, with family by his side.

He was a Cape Elizabeth High School graduate, Class of 1996, and Gettysburg College, Class of 2000. At CEHS, Andrew was known for his quiet manner, kind heart, friendly laugh, and listening ear. He was an avid reader with a curious mind, especially for science and aviation. As a student pilot he was amused that one of his passengers was his terrified sister. He was a youth member of the Civil Air Patrol which lead to the thrill of being on a jet refueling mission off the coast of Africa. His interest in aviation took him to Washington, D.C., with a high school friend to attend seminars and expositions sponsored by Lockheed Martin.

At CEHS he thrived under the guidance of the legendary teacher Dick Mullen, as he worked on the technical side of school plays and events. He was a four-time lacrosse state champion and his high school teammates referred to him as “The Terminator”, known for his hard hits and unflappable work ethic.

At Gettysburg he thrived as he participated in several student groups, making lifelong friends. His pride for the college lead to his role as a tour guide for incoming students. After graduation he did cancer research in Boston hospitals before arriving at McClean Hospital where he met his wife, Rachael. During Rachael’s medical training, Andrew worked at UMass Medical Center as a research assistant for Dr. Jim Carmody at the Center for Mindfulness. When he moved back to Cape Elizabeth, he worked at Maine Med’s Cancer Institute where he was a report writer for the tumor registry. The data he analyzed supported clinicians and researchers to more effectively understand and treat cancer. Without a doubt, his greatest satisfaction was being Luce’s dad. He was happy to be back in Maine where he could enjoy sailing, spending time with his dogs, and the proximity to extended family.

He is survived by his wife, Rachael; and their beloved child, Luce; his parents, Kathy and Randy Blake; his sister, Katie Blackburn and her husband Cade, and their children Katharine, Colin, and Aly; his brother, Peter and his daughter, Charlotte Blake.

At his request there will be a private graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Greater Portland Health or the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland.
