Brooklyn Police Seek Suspect in 90‑Year‑Old Woman’s Assault
Brooklyn, N.Y. — A 90‑year‑old woman was attacked on a Brooklyn sidewalk on Monday morning, prompting a police investigation that is still underway. The incident occurred around 9:47 a.m. outside 501 Brighton Beach Avenue in the Brighton Beach neighborhood, according to the New York City Police Department (NYPD).
Video captured by a local news station shows the victim walking when an unidentified man approached her. The suspect pushed a discarded baby crib filled with debris onto the sidewalk, then lifted it and hurled it at the woman. The impact caused her to fall to the pavement and she fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction. Emergency medical personnel responded promptly and transported her to NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island, where she was treated for injuries and reported to be in a stable condition.
The NYPD has not identified a motive for the attack, and it is still unclear whether the suspect and victim knew one another. Police released a photograph of the man they are seeking. He was described as wearing a dark‑colored hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and white sneakers at the time of the assault. He has since left the area and remains at large.
"We are asking anyone who may have seen a man fitting this description near the scene on Monday morning to come forward," a NYPD spokesperson said. "All tips will be handled confidentially through our Crime Stoppers Hotline or online platforms."
Those with information are urged to contact the NYPD Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1‑800‑577‑TIPS (8477). Tips can also be submitted online via the Crime Stoppers website or by messaging @NYPDTips on X. Police are continuing to review surveillance footage and canvass the area for additional witnesses.
The incident has drawn attention to safety concerns in the Brighton Beach area, a community that has seen a rise in crime in recent months. The NYPD has reiterated that it remains committed to protecting residents and visitors and will pursue all leads in the case.
At this time, the suspect’s identity and whereabouts are still unknown. Police continue to investigate the incident and are working with local media to disseminate information that may help identify the assailant.
