Author Harold Greene will present a talk on his new book, “The Architects of Control,” on Thursday, Aug. 13, at 6 p.m.

Harold Greene is a Norwegian writer living in Hallowell. A former United Nations staffer with postings across four continents and a master’s from the London School of Economics, he now works with rural leaders in Maine on community resilience. His writing examines power and how it manifests in daily life.

In Greene’s debut novel “The Architects of Control: A Political Thriller,” Deputy Robert Pures in Aroostook County follows a hit-and-run into the woods and finds five tech specialists in a remote fishing camp. What he uncovers will pull him into a conspiracy that decides elections before a single vote is cast. Set in the fictional town of New Denmark, the novel draws on the rhythms of small-town life in the county: town meetings, the long fall nights before an election, and the kind of community where everyone knows everyone.

It explores what happens when artificial intelligence is used not to hack elections, but to shape how voters think and whether they show up at all. The novel arrives in the middle of the 2026 election cycle, amid mounting concern about data centers, AI-generated content, deepfakes, and algorithmic influence on elections.

From Kirkus Reviews, “Greene expertly weaves a thrilling political tapestry that is equally topical and timeless … sure to excite and delight fans of political thrillers and tales of deep-seated corruption.”

After the talk, books will be available for purchase and signing.
