Norway man convicted of killing his wife dies in Maine prison

Murder Convict Andrew St. George Dies in Maine Prison
A 64‑year‑old inmate sentenced for the murder of his estranged wife died in state custody on Tuesday morning at the Mountain View Correctional Facility in Charleston, Maine, officials said.
The Maine Department of Corrections confirmed that Andrew St. George, a resident of Norway, passed away around 9:20 a.m. Wednesday after receiving a news release that morning. The death was reported to the state’s Attorney General and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, per standard procedure, but the cause of the inmate’s death has not yet been disclosed.
St. George was convicted of the 2023 homicide of his wife, Barbara St. George. Police said the couple had been estranged when the incident occurred; the suspect drove a pickup truck over his wife before stabbing her. He was sentenced to 37 years in 2025 and had been serving time at Mountain View since then.
The Department of Corrections did not provide any additional details about the circumstances surrounding his death. The inmate’s death is the latest in a series of high‑profile cases that have drawn attention to Maine’s prison system over the past year.
