North Berwick man dies in Piscataquis County ATV crash
A North Berwick man is dead after he lost control while driving an ATV in Piscataquis County on Saturday.
The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife identified the man as 20-year-old Bruce Kennedy, according to a Sunday night news release.
Kennedy and a friend were driving separate ATVs in a remote area near Wadleigh Pond around 2 p.m. Saturday when Kennedy failed to follow a curve in the road, causing him to lose control and crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene, MDIFW spokesperson Mark Latti said in the news release.
The initial investigation indicated that speed was a factor in the crash, and that Kennedy was not wearing a helmet, Latti said.
Kennedy was taken to Lary Funeral Home in Dover-Foxcroft.
Several departments responded to the crash, including the Maine Warden Service and the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office.
CNC Roadway Solutions, a South Berwick road maintenance company Kennedy worked for, posted a tribute to social media Monday honoring him. The company described him as always eager to help, even on his days off, and so dedicated that he wore a company T-shirt under his high school graduation gown, just in case he needed to “come wash a sweeper or 2,” the post read.
“We are so thankful for every laugh, every memory, every sweeper he washed and every random day he showed up at the shop to help out just because he wanted to be there,” the post read. “Bruce, you were truly one of a kind, and you will be missed more than words can say. Thank you for all the memories, buddy. Rest easy.”
