The Knights led 8-0, but Cheverus (14-4) tied it with six runs in the fourth and two in the fifth. Noble’s Alec Hale drove in the winning run with a double to right center in the seventh. The Knights (10-8-1) tacked on two more runs, one on a bases-loaded fielder’s choice when Owen Orlando beat out a potential inning-ending double play, and the other on a single by Caiden Barnes. “I don’t want to go home. I want to keep playing baseball,” said Hale, the son of head coach Adam Hale. “We believe. We believe in each other. And we believe in the coaches, and we’re just going to go out and play baseball.” Noble advances to the regional final Tuesday at the University of Southern Maine. The Knights have won three straight road playoff games, each in dramatic fashion. They beat No. 7 Massabesic, 5-1 in eight innings, then topped South Portland and its ace, Hudson Iacuessa, prevailing 1-0 in eight innings. It will be Noble’s first regional final since 2002, when it lost to Portland. Adam Hale was a member of that team. Advertisement Noble pounded out 14 hits against three Cheverus pitchers. Alec Hale, the leadoff hitter, was 2 for 2 with two walks, three RBI and two runs. No. 2 batter Dillon May had four hits, including an RBI single in the second to finish a four-run rally that was set up by singles from Caiden Barnes (two hits) and Wesley Turnbull (three hits, two RBI) and then four consecutive bunts. Both Hales said that the bunt game, a staple of Noble’s offense, has been erratic this season. But in the second inning, Carl Gregoire (two hits), Sean Sullivan, Evan Ballard and Alec Hale put down four excellent bunts in a row. Sullivan’s was a suicide squeeze that drove in the second run. “They executed it. I don’t know if there was a play we could have made. We knew what was coming,” said Cheverus coach Ryan Copp. “They perfectly placed bunts, and sometimes that’s the way it goes.” Turnbull had the big blow in Noble’s four-run fourth inning with a two-run single after a Travis Cole RBI single and a bunt single by Orlando that brought in another run. Cheverus had been down five runs to Noble in the regular season and rallied to win. The Stags most recently rallied for a tying run in the seventh before defeating Sanford in eight innings in a regional quarterfinal. Cheverus didn’t go quietly and chased Noble starter Gregoire with a six-run fourth inning that featured two-out run-scoring hits by No. 9 batter Joe Mancini and Jackson Holmes, the latter a two-run double. Cheverus tied the game in the fifth with an RBI double from Will Baker and an infield groundout before a line-drive double play to Orlando at short got Noble out of the inning. Turnbull, who threw a complete game at Massabesic, also got the win against Cheverus, working around a pair of hits in the sixth and an stranding a runner at third in the seventh.
