Nine Maine Seniors Named Finalists for John Winkin Award
The state’s most prestigious high‑school baseball honor, the John Winkin Award, will be presented to the top senior in Maine at the Senior All‑Star Game on June 23 at Saint Joseph’s College. A nine‑player panel of finalists has just been announced, each of whom also throws on the mound.
The finalists are:
- Hudson Iacuessa – left‑handed pitcher for South Portland
- Parker Morin – slugging shortstop for Cony
- Alex Allain – shortstop for Fryeburg Academy
- Trot Moody – shortstop for Old Orchard Beach
- Denny Martin – first baseman for Messalonskee
- Collin Sullivan – shortstop for Mt. Desert Island
- Jackson Barry – first baseman for Ellsworth
- Brady Gaw – shortstop for Dexter/Piscataquis
- Calvin Richardson – shortstop for Katahdin
All nine athletes are dual‑role players, contributing both as pitchers and hitters. Two of the finalists—Allain and Moody—were selected to the Varsity Maine All‑State team last season, underscoring their standout performances.
The award, presented by the Maine State Credit Union, celebrates a senior who combines talent, leadership, and character on and off the field. The winner will be revealed during the July 23 All‑Star Game, a gathering that also showcases the nation’s best college‑bound talent.
As the summer progresses, the high‑school baseball community is abuzz with speculation about who will ultimately lift the John Winkin Award, a trophy that has become a coveted milestone for Maine’s emerging athletes.
