Nicolas Cage’s oceanfront property in Malibu suffered damage after the driveway in front of his home gave way, forming a sizable sinkhole. The collapse occurred early Tuesday morning, prompting a response from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the Sheriff’s Department and the City of Malibu’s building safety officials.

Officials said the failure was driven by coastal erosion exacerbated by Hurricane Marie, which generated large swells and elevated tides along the Southern California coast. Video of the scene shows a roughly 30‑by‑30‑foot opening where the driveway once stood, with waves visible beneath the exposed structural beams. Fragments of a glass fence and concrete lie inside the hole, and orange traffic cones mark its perimeter.

When crews arrived they also detected a natural‑gas leak. The City of Malibu reported that it “responded to the collapse of the driveway and resulting gas leak,” adding that the private road was shut down and the leak was identified. The city’s Building Safety Division and Southern California Gas Company are now evaluating the site to determine any further safety risks. As a precaution, five nearby homes have been red‑tagged, meaning entry is prohibited until inspections are complete. No evacuation orders have been issued, and no injuries have been reported.

The city emphasized that it is actively monitoring other locations prone to erosion, notably stretches of وصلاً the Pacific Coast Highway near the Palisades Fire burn area and Westward Beach, where strong waves and high tides continue to pose threats. In a statement, Malibu officials noted they are preparing for the possibility of strong storms, heavy rain, mudslides and additional coastal erosion, conditions they link to the forecasted strong El Niño pattern developing off the coast.

Cage purchased the 4,000‑square‑foot, modern residence in 2024 for $10.5 million. The home features floor‑to‑ceiling windows, a rooftop deck and a ground‑level outdoor lounge designed to take advantage of panoramic ocean views. Representatives for the actor have not commented on the incident, and there is no indication that Cage was present when the driveway failed.
