New seafood and steak restaurant opening in downtown Freeport

The Kingtide set to open in Freeport, promising a new dining destination for locals and visitors alike
Freeport, Maine – Rick and Tatiana Boyd, the couple behind the popular Rambler Irish Bistro in Yarmouth, are preparing to open a new restaurant in downtown Freeport. The new venue, named The Kingtide, is slated to open in late March and will take over the space currently occupied by the long‑running Lobster Cooker at 38 Main Street.
Lobster Cooker, which has served the town for ten years, announced its closing date of October 31 on its Facebook page. The Boyds plan to convert the counter‑service establishment into a full‑service restaurant. The building will feature a 20‑seat bar on the ground floor and a private‑event space on the upper level, allowing the restaurant to host both casual dining and larger gatherings.
“While Freeport is known for its tourist traffic, we’re building The Kingtide with the year‑round community in mind,” said the Boyds. “We want it to feel authentic, as if it’s been there for decades. That’s our goal with The Kingtide — to be the place where you bump into neighbors on a Thursday night.”
The menu will showcase fresh‑caught seafood, Maine‑raised meats and a variety of global flavors. The Boyds expect the restaurant to begin serving dinner on five nights a week in March, expanding to lunch and dinner seven nights a week during the summer season.
The Kingtide’s opening comes as the Boyds look to expand their culinary footprint beyond Yarmouth. With the new location’s emphasis on local ingredients and community feel, the couple hopes to bring a fresh dining experience that complements Freeport’s vibrant downtown while retaining the cozy charm that has defined their previous venture.
