The owners of a new restaurant spotlighting Nepali and Tibetan food aim to open this summer in the former [Taco Trio space](https://www.pressherald.com/2025/03/18/taco-trio-has-reopened-in-its-original-location/) in South Portland’s Knightville neighborhood. Himalayas on the Bay will be located at 60 Ocean St., as first reported by Portland Food Map. Co-owner and head chef Laxman Neupane said he and his partners — who all hail from Nepal and also co-own Hi Bombay in Portland — plan to open by mid-July. “We’re trying to cover Nepalese, Tibetan and Indian food in general,” Neupane said. Dishes will include momo (dumplings), thukpa (noodle soup), thali (like a snack dinner), and Nepali chow mein, along with popular Indian dishes like butter chicken and chicken curry. “It’s going to be a lot different from Hi Bombay,” Neupane said. Himalayas on the Bay will also have a full bar serving beer, wine and cocktails. Renovations are underway at the roomy space, which spans more than 6,000 square feet. Neupane said their days and hours of operation haven’t yet been settled, though he expects it to be similar to Hi Bombay, which serves lunch and dinner daily.
