One man is dead after he lost control while operating a dirt bike Saturday afternoon in Parsonsfield.

The Maine Warden Service responded to a call at approximately 3 p.m. and found 22-year-old Kevin O’Connell of Epping, New Hampshire, had crashed into a tree on Knox Road, according to a news release.

O’Connell and five of his friends were riding on an extremely dusty trail with poor visibility when the group realized O’Connell was missing. They circled back and, upon locating him, attempted CPR until paramedics arrived. He was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to Poitras Funeral Home in Cornish.

The warden service determined that O’Connell likely hit a rough patch causing him to lose control and strike the tree. A preliminary investigation found that O’Connell was wearing a helmet, and that speed was a factor.

The incident is still under investigation.
