Lucky Sevens to Replace Bar Publica in West Bayside

Portland, Maine – The 4,000‑square‑foot former Bar Publica, a longtime staple of West Bayside, will close its doors this fall as the venue is reborn under a new name and concept. Co‑owner Spencer Brantley announced that the space will reopen as Lucky Sevens, a “new bar” that will combine music, games and a pared‑down food menu.

Brantley said the new bar is slated to open in late September or early October, once cosmetic work on the interior is complete. The renovation will add a jukebox, two pool tables and other “adult playground”‑style games, the co‑owner told local media. The venue will seat fewer than 100 guests, and the schedule for days and hours of operation has not yet been finalized.

“We’re looking at a space that’s more intimate and playful,” Brantley said. “Lucky Sevens will have a jukebox, a couple of pool tables and some other games to create an ‘adult playground’ atmosphere.”

Unlike the previous Bar Publica, which offered a broader menu, Lucky Sevens will serve a limited selection of food, including a cheesesteak, hamburger and fries. The focus will be on beverages, entertainment and a casual, “adult playground” vibe that encourages patrons to linger and play.

The decision to close Bar Publica was announced last week by its owners, citing the health concerns of the chef as the primary reason for shutting down. The restaurant had been a well‑known West Bayside destination, but the health‑related challenges prompted the owners to seek a different direction. The new Lucky Sevens brand represents a fresh start for the space, with the owners hoping to attract a new crowd while retaining some of the neighborhood’s loyal patrons.

“We’re excited to bring a fresh concept to the community,” Brantley said. “We want to create a place where people can enjoy music, games and a relaxed dining experience.”

The West Bayside community will be watching the transformation closely. With its location in a growing Portland neighborhood, Lucky Sevens may become a new gathering spot for locals and visitors alike. The renovation is expected to be completed by the end of September, and the exact opening date will be announced once the venue’s hours and capacity are finalized.

For those who enjoyed the classic Bar Publica atmosphere, the upcoming change offers an opportunity to experience a new type of bar that blends music, games and casual food in a cozy setting. The community can look forward to seeing the once‑familiar space re‑imagined as Lucky Sevens in the coming months.
