Ms. Rachel: From YouTube Nursery Rhymes to a $22,000 Political Footprint

Rachel Accurso, the 43‑year‑old former preschool teacher who turned her YouTube channel into a multimillion‑dollar children’s empire, has become one of the most politically outspoken figures in early‑learning media. Since 2024, federal records show she has donated roughly $22,500 to Democratic and progressive candidates, a tally that has drawn attention from parents, media executives and political observers alike.

Accurso first launched her channel in 2019 after finding few resources for her son’s speech delay. She quickly built a following with “Songs for Littles,” a series of nursery rhymes and original songs performed while she wears a signature pink shirt, overalls and headband. The channel now boasts more than 21 million YouTube subscribers, and Accurso’s brand has expanded into books, streaming shows and licensed toys.

From Preschool Classroom to Netflix, Books and Toys

The brand’s reach has grown beyond the screen. In 2024 Penguin Random House signed a publishing deal to bring Accurso’s stories to print, and a year later Netflix added a series starring the YouTuber to its platform. “These companies look at it as: if an entertainer doesn’t blur real life into the content, that tends to make things a little bit safer,” noted James Zahn, editor‑in‑chief of The Toy Book.

The toy partnership came in 2025, when Spin Master announced a line of “Ms. Rachel” products that appear in major retailers such as Target and Amazon. At the 2025 Toy Fair in New York, Zahn recalled, “I distinctly remember at Toy Fair New York knowing that Ms. Rachel was in the building—not in character, but she was taking meetings.” The brand’s toys feature a range of learning‑and‑play items, with several sets depicting Accurso herself as a plush character.

“Today's children, even from the youngest ages, don’t just want to watch a television program. They want to be part of the media that they consume. They want to play with it. They want to act it out. They want to wear the clothing,” Kleeman, senior vice president of global trends for Dubit, said. “We tell parents, ‘You’re your child’s first teacher.’”

Accurso’s estimated net worth of about $50 million and her placement as No. 20 on Forbes’ 2025 Top Creators List—earning $23 million that year—illustrate how quickly a child‑focused YouTuber can translate online popularity into mainstream revenue.

A Political Voice in a Children’s World

Accurso has been unreserved about her political views, describing herself as “political” in a March interview. She has spoken on a range of contentious topics, including the Israel‑Hamas conflict, racial equity and U.S. immigration policies. Her public statements have included a call for “every wealthy white celebrity” to match a donor’s contribution to Palestinian causes and a remark that she would have “probably” spoken up about Gaza if the children involved were white.

Her political engagement extends to campaign contributions. Federal Election Commission records show the following:

CandidateTotal Contribution
Vice President Kamala Harris$3,000 (including a $250 to the Harris Victory Fund, $750 to the campaign, and $2,000 more by September 2024)
Cameron Kasky (NY‑14)$5,000 (followed by a $1,500 refund)
Yuh‑Line Niou (NY‑11)$5,000

Brad Lander (NY‑11)$4,500
Abdul El‑Sayed (MI‑7)$3,000
Various New York candidates (2026)$12,000

Kasky, a Parkland, Florida survivor of the 2018 school shooting, ran on a platform that included abolishing ICE, ending U.S. military funding to Israel and stricter gun‑violence laws. Niou,
