More sharks spotted at Pine Point Beach in Scarborough
A day after two great white sharks were spotted at Pine Point Beach in Scarborough, the Scarborough Public Safety Team observed five to seven additional white sharks in the same area Wednesday.
A drone operator monitoring the area saw the sharks feeding and swimming in nearshore waters, according to a public safety advisory from the Scarborough Police Department. There have been no reports of injuries or aggressive interactions with people.
Seasonal prey availability, such schools of baitfish and seals, could be the cause of the increased shark activity, according to the advisory.

The police department urges the public to “remain vigilant and exercise caution in the area,” out of an abundance of caution. People are recommended to exit the water if a shark is seen, follow instructions from lifeguards and public safety personnel, report shark sightings to the Scarborough Public Safety Team, avoid swimming if there are seals or large schools of fish or if alone, and stay close to shore.
