Former Breitbart Editor Milo Yiannopoulos Deported Back to UK After ICE Arrest in Louisiana

Milo Yiannopoulos, the provocative British commentator who once served as an editor at Breitbart News, was deported to the United Kingdom on Friday after being taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

The 39-year-old was detained in Alexandria, Louisiana, a key hub for federal deportation operations, before being removed from the country one day following his arrest at the airport in Kenner, Louisiana.

DHS officials said Yiannopoulos legally entered the United States through New York City on May 14, 2019, but remained after his authorized stay expired. An immigration judge issued a final order of removal on July 22 after Yiannopoulos failed to appear for a scheduled hearing, the agency stated.

"Yiannopoulos legally entered the country on May 14, 2019, through New York City, New York. He chose to overstay his welcome in violation of our nation's laws," DHS said in a statement.

The deportation comes as the Trump administration has intensified immigration enforcement efforts nationwide. DHS used Yiannopoulos's removal to deliver a broader message to those in the country without legal authorization.

"Under President Trump, DHS will no longer tolerate this," the agency stated, adding that the department has reversed a Biden-era policy that it said had allowed undocumented individuals to travel domestically by air.

The agency encouraged those without legal status to utilize the CBP Home app to arrange their own departures, noting that the federal government is offering $3,000 and a complimentary flight to those who leave voluntarily.

"Being in detention is a choice," DHS said. Individuals who use the app may preserve an opportunity to return to the United States legally in the future, according to the statement.

Those who decline voluntary departure face arrest and deportation without the possibility of returning, officials warned.

Yiannopoulos first gained national prominence as a combative political commentator and editor at Breitbart News. His provocative speeches and online commentary, including appearances that triggered protests at the University of California, Berkeley, made him a controversial figure in American political discourse.
