Milford father arrested in 1-year-old daughter’s death

A Milford man has been arrested after a monthslong investigation into his 1-year-old daughter’s death.
Shane McLaughlin, 37, is accused of manslaughter in the death of Eleanora Ray McLaughlin, who was found dead in December 2025. State officials determined in April that the 13-month-old died of hypothermia.

Maine State Police arrested Shane McLaughlin on Wednesday, according to a news release from the agency. State police said Thursday that he is also charged with three counts of child endangerment.
He is being held at the Penobscot County Jail on $250,000 bail, according to jail staff.
After Eleanora’s death, state lawmakers pressed the Maine Department of Health and Human Services for more information about recent child deaths.
Sen. Jeff Timberlake, R-Turner, wrote in a letter to the department that the toddler was found dead “while living in a home alongside her siblings with no heat and no running water in the middle of a Maine winter.”
This is a developing story.
