Mickey Gasper has surgery after Red Sox season ends

Boston – First‑baseman and catcher Mickey Gasper has had a right biceps tendon repair surgery that the Boston Red Sox say was successful. The 30‑year‑old New Hampshire native, who has spent his career with the club, will be out for the remainder of the season.
The club announced the procedure on Friday, noting that it was performed by Dr. Matthew Leibman at MassGeneral Brigham in Boston. Gasper had been playing in the Red Sox’s final regular‑season series against the Chicago Cubs on September 25. He started the game in the catcher’s position but was taken out in the sixth inning after reporting discomfort in his right biceps. He was then placed on the injured list and did not travel with the team for the American League Wild‑Card Series loss to the New York Yankees.
Gasper’s season was statistically his best to date. In his third major‑league campaign, he appeared in a career‑high 67 games, batting .251 with 10 home runs and 24 runs batted in. The injury will sideline him for the playoffs, but the Red Sox remain confident in his recovery.
The team expressed gratitude for the support of fans during this time, and the club’s medical staff will continue to monitor Gasper’s progress as he rehabilitates.
