McDonald's Brings Back Spicy Chicken McNuggets Nationwide, Launches Texas-Exclusive Meal Deal

PORTLAND, Maine — For those who like their fast food with a kick, McDonald's is answering the call.

The Chicago-based fast-food giant announced this week that Spicy Chicken McNuggets and its companion Mighty Hot Sauce are returning to menus at participating locations across the country, starting September 1. The items will be available for a limited time only.

The spicy nuggets are breaded in a tempura coating crafted from a blend of aged cayenne and chili peppers, designed to deliver what McDonald's calls "the perfect kick in every bite." The Mighty Hot Sauce — making its first appearance since 2021 — is described as a "flavorful blend of heat" featuring crushed red pepper, spicy chilis, savory garlic, and a hint of sweetness.

"Fans ready to bring the heat can sink their teeth into spicy Chicken McNuggets, a hot take on our classic Chicken McNuggets," the company said in a statement announcing the return.

This marks the third national appearance for the spicy nuggets, which first launched in 2020. They most recently returned to select U.S. markets in 2024, but this upcoming run marks a broader return to participating restaurants nationwide.

The timing appears designed to capitalize on strong consumer demand. Social media has been buzzing with fans urging McDonald's to make the spicy option a permanent fixture on the menu.

"I love this menu and I will continue to call for spicy McNuggets to be permanent because they're so much better than the original!" one Instagram user wrote in a popular post.

"I don't know why they don't keep the spicy nuggets permanent!" another commenter wrote. "They don't even need sauce, I love 'em."

Customers who order the meal will also receive one of seven collectible cups adorned with Texas-inspired artwork created by artist and muralist Avery Orendorf.

The Texas Meal has generated significant enthusiasm online, with one popular post teasing the promotion drawing more than 19,000 likes and hundreds of comments. Followers have been quick to suggest the chain should offer similar state-specific meals.
