Scarborough Councilor Endorses School‑Board Chair Shannon Lindstrom for State Representative
A letter to the editor in the Press Herald today announced that Scarborough town councilor Larry Cain will be voting for Mary Shannon Lindstrom in the November election for Maine’s 124th House District.
Lindstrom, who has served on the Scarborough School Board for six years and has chaired the board for the past five, is being urged to bring her educational leadership to the state legislature. Cain, a long‑time councilor, praised Lindstrom’s ability to unite diverse stakeholders in school‑related projects. He highlighted her role in the town’s recent school‑building advisory committee, which produced a comprehensive renovation plan that culminated in a successful referendum in November 2025.
“The process was a test of leadership, and Shannon’s steady guidance was essential,” Cain wrote. “She has a genuine empathy and concern for our residents in every interaction.” He added that Lindstrom and Cain collaborated on the school budget this year, a task Cain described as “an environment of restrained spending.”
Cain closed the letter with a direct call to voters: “I encourage everyone to vote for Mary Shannon Lindstrom in November.”
Lindstrom’s candidacy comes as the 124th District—encompassing the town of Scarborough—heads toward its next state‑house election. Her record on the school board and in town governance positions her as a candidate who has already proven her capacity to lead on local issues that affect families, schools, and the broader community.
The endorsement reflects a broader trend of local officials endorsing candidates whose experience aligns closely with their district’s priorities. Whether voters will follow Cain’s lead remains to be seen, but the endorsement adds a notable voice to the field of candidates vying for the seat.
