When the Hawks face adversity, though, they thrive in the moment. Marshwood did again Tuesday night, hanging on for an 11-10 win over Greely in a Class B semifinal despite playing a man down in the final four minutes. “I was kind of happy (for us) to finish man down, because we’ve played a lot of man down this year, unfortunately,” Marshwood coach Adrian Ward said. “It’s kind of our comfort zone. But I knew they wouldn’t be rattled by it.” Marshwood (14-2), the No. 4 seed, will meet third-seeded York in the Class B final on Friday at Memorial Field in Portland. It’s the second trip to a state championship game for the Hawks, who lost 13-10 to Yarmouth in the 2021 Class B final. It just feels awesome to have that come to fruition. We’ve got one more game to go, though.” Hayden Demeroto, a senior, led Marshwood with four goals and an assist. Juniors Chad Anderson and Drake Anderson each added two goals. Advertisement Colby Ross, a junior, and Brooks Allen, a freshman, each scored three goals for Greely (11-5), which was the No. 1 seed. Holding an 11-9 lead, Marshwood was hit with back-to-back crosscheck-to-the-head penalties. Greely got a goal from Allen with 1:18 left, but Marshwood then was able to keep the ball away from goalie Nathan Kelley, who finished with 10 saves. “That’s just all props to our defense: Brody Flanagan, Owen Walker, Greg (Castoras),” Boisvert said. “Jack O’Brien has played a huge role for us this year. It’s just all props to our defense on that.” Marshwood trailed 9-8 entering the fourth quarter but got three straight goals from Robert Williams, Demeroto and Chad Anderson. The game was close throughout. Greely led 6-5 at halftime and was up by two goals in the third quarter before Marshwood began its comeback. “Marshwood really came out and battled and kept answering and kept fighting for four full quarters,” Greely coach Michael Storey said. “It obviously put them on top. “I’m really proud of the guys. We assumed we were a year away from making it to any real big games. But I think they showed up early. We have the entire team returning next year, for the most part. I think in another year, things look really positive.” The Hawks enter the state final on a four-game winning streak. “We’ve been a brotherhood since we were in second or third grade,” Demeroto said. “We know each other inside and out. We know everything about each other. Our chemistry is off the charts.” Copy the Story Link Tagged: [greely rangers](https://www.pressherald.com/tag/greely-rangers/), [marshwood hawks](https://www.pressherald.com/tag/marshwood-hawks/) [![](https://www.pressherald.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2017/01/NEW-Dave-Dyer.jpeg?w=66)](https://www.pressherald.com/author/dave-dyer) [Dave DyerStaff Writer](https://www.pressherald.com/author/dave-dyer) Dave Dyer is in his second stint with the Kennebec Journal/Morning Sentinel.
