A new Market Basket supermarket will open Nov. 6 in Scarborough in the The Downs development off Haigis Parkway.

“We’re excited to be here and to become a part of the community,” store director Eric Beaulieu said Thursday as employees and contractors put finishing touches on the building, landscaping and product displays.

Beaulieu said he has already hired 300 people — including Scarborough High School students and other Greater Portland residents — and there are many other full- and part-time positions available.

This will be the fourth Market Basket in Maine, after stores in Biddeford, Westbrook and Topsham. The Massachusetts-based company operates more than 90 stores across New England.

It will be the second supermarket to open in The Downs, a 577-acre mixed-use development of a former horse-racing facility that stretches from Route 1 to Payne Road.

Maine’s first Costco opened there in 2023 and is driving nearly 2 million shoppers annually to nearby businesses, a study found.
