Man allegedly forced woman to marry him in New Hampshire followed by ‘satanic ritual’ in Maine

A man allegedly forced a woman to marry him in New Hampshire before performing a “satanic ritual” in Kittery, according to court documents. Daniel Ouellet, 47, has been charged with obstructing someone to report a crime or injury by threatening them with a deadly weapon. New Hampshire court documents state that the man’s “ties are primarily with Maine” but that he has no permanent address, and that more charges may follow. Newington, New Hampshire, police officer Kyle Hume wrote in an affidavit that he was dispatched to an Olive Garden restaurant in town just before 11:30 a.m. Saturday for a report of a woman being held against her will. Pennsylvania State Police had informed law enforcement in New Hampshire that the Pennsylvania woman’s phone had been traced to the restaurant’s parking lot, Hume wrote, and provided a description of the woman’s vehicle, which the two were traveling in. Hume said he located the vehicle but found it unoccupied, at which point another officer arrived at the scene. When the two officers went to the front of the building, they saw the woman exit, crying, trailed by Ouellet, Hume wrote. Hume questioned Ouellet while the other officer spoke with the woman, according to the affidavit. Hume wrote that Ouellet presented a Maine driver’s license but said he was living at a campground in Lee, New Hampshire. Advertisement Ouellet said he and the woman got married June 1 and that she was crying because her mother wanted her to join “a religious cult” in Pennsylvania, Hume wrote. Meanwhile, the woman voluntarily got into the passenger seat of the other police officer’s cruiser, according to the affidavit. Hume wrote that he was told the woman had cigarette burns on her legs and that Ouellet had allegedly cut her earlier in the day in Kittery. The woman would later tell officers that Ouellet forced her to marry him and, nearly a week later, cut her hand for “what she described as a satanic ritual,” according to the affidavit. Ouellet insisted he speak with his wife but was told he couldn’t, according to the affidavit. “I noticed at this time a complete change of demeanor, and he started acting very nervous,” Hume wrote. Ouellet claimed to have no knowledge of the burns, according to the affidavit, and was informed of the woman’s intent to file an emergency restraining order. Ouellet was eventually given a few items from the woman’s car, which included “a Satanic Bible,” a sweatshirt, and a bag, according to the affidavit. The officers departed, and the woman followed them to the police station in her car. Advertisement There, the woman told police that over a week before, while in Pennsylvania, she was told by Ouellet to meet him or he would “go down there and harm her daughter, her, and her mother,” Hume wrote. The woman drove to New Hampshire to meet Ouellet, who allegedly had a handgun with him, according to the affidavit. The woman said Ouellet told her they were going to the town hall in Lee to get married “or he will make her pay,” Hume wrote. The woman said she signed the marriage paperwork against her will, according to the affidavit, and stayed at his trailer for the next few days. She said Ouellet again warned that he would harm her family if she left, Hume wrote. The woman alleged that on Friday, Ouellet had her drive them to various locations while he was in the passenger seat with a loaded gun in his lap aimed at her, according to the affidavit. Ouellet directed her to drive to Epping, New Hampshire, but allegedly stated that “the religious cults were following them,” Hume wrote. “He proceeded to make her drive to many different locations in Maine, all the way up to Biddeford, Maine at night,” Hume wrote, before driving back south to Kittery, “where they were throughout the night.” Advertisement The woman claimed that on Saturday morning, Ouellet “was trying to get blood from her to go forward with what she described as a satantic ritual,” according to the affidavit. He then allegedly grabbed her by the wrist, sliced her hand with a box cutter, and then forced her to drive to the Olive Garden, where police caught up with them. Ouellet appeared in Portsmouth District Court on Monday, according to court records, and was ordered held pending further court proceedings. The court documents also say other charges might be filed, with the incident spanning multiple towns in New Hampshire and Maine.
