Maine talk show, film about Portland radio station win New England Emmys

(Photo by Whittling Fog Photography) A film about a Portland community radio station and an episode of a Bangor-based talk show featuring David Letteman as a surprise guest were among the Maine winners at the Boston/New England Emmy Awards on Saturday. Yarmouth filmmaker Tom Bell won an Emmy [for his documentary “An Extraordinary Place,”](https://www.pressherald.com/2025/03/24/yarmouth-filmmaker-talks-about-portland-radio-documentary/) about Portland community radio station WMPG and the volunteers there. The film was shown on Maine Public Television and has won awards at several film festivals. Bell’s Emmy was in the category of editor/long-form content. Cashman also won in the program host category. (Photo by Roger McCord) Cashman, who hosted and produced “The Nite Show” for 15 years, landed Letterman as a surprise guest on the final episode, which aired in May 2025. Cashman had been inspired by Letterman, and had asked to him to be a guest on his Maine show for several years. The show was seen on several Maine stations. Portland station WMTW won in the category of morning newscast/smaller markets, with anchor Jessica Gagne, reporters Emily King-Pike and Jamie Azulay, and producer Alexandra Huff. Christopher Costa of News Center Maine won in the category of multimedia journalist for “A Mother’s Plea for Justice.” Videographer Mike Novelli of Maine Life Media won in the category of photographer/long-form content.
