Maine PoutineFest returns to Thompson’s Point in September
The third annual Maine PoutineFest is slated for Sept. 19 at Thompson’s Point.
Last year, the food festival drew hundreds of fans of the classic French-Canadian comfort food dish, which combines French fries with gravy and cheese curds.
Local restaurants enter their variations on the dish in a taste-test contest. Athena’s Cantina of Freeport won the People’s Choice Award last year with their Mexican-style take, while Portland Lobster Co. took the judge’s “Championship Belt” with lobster-topped poutine.
The event also features several vendor food trucks, local and regional beer, games and kids’ activities. Proceeds from PoutineFest help to promote French language and cultural programs statewide.
First organized in 2015, PoutineFest also has events in Londonderry, New Hampshire; Burlington, Vermont; and Boston.
