Maine must get real about Susan Collins | Letter

I cannot understand how the news media, in good conscience, can run annoying “puff piece” letters to the editor and op-eds about Sen. Susan Collins — especially after the killing by ICE of 25-year-old Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero in broad daylight, at a location within walking distance of her Biddeford constituents’ office.

The mainstream media will not run meaningless puff reports about anybody else, unless the complimentary articles are paid for in an expensive obituary notice. A highly visible street memorial dedicated to honor Durán Guerrero deserves much more coverage than letters and op-eds painting Sen. Collins as a political June Cleaver from the 1950s “Leave it to Beaver” series.

Collins voted for the $70 billion allocation for ICE and related enforcement efforts, spending our tax money to support the cause of Durán Guerrero’s death.
