Maine Medical Center to close heliport for 2 weeks amid renovation project

Medical Flights Arrive at Portland Jetport, Patients Routed to Hospital
Portland, Maine – A new arrangement will see medical flights landing at Portland Jetport, with patients immediately transferred by ambulance to a local hospital. The service is designed to streamline critical care for residents needing urgent medical attention.
The flights, which will use the jetport’s existing air traffic facilities, will bring patients who are being transported from out‑of‑state locations or who require rapid transfer from nearby medical facilities. Once on the ground, paramedics will escort them from the jetport to the hospital’s emergency department for immediate evaluation and treatment.
City officials say the move will reduce transfer times and increase access to advanced medical services for Portland residents. While the exact start date for the service has not yet been announced, officials confirmed that the necessary arrangements are in place for a smooth transition.
“We’re committed to providing the best possible care for our community,” said a city spokesperson. “By leveraging the jetport for medical transport, we can get patients to the care they need faster.”
