Lucky Sevens set to open Friday in Portland’s West Bayside

Lucky Sevens Opens Friday on Portland’s Hanover Street
Portland, Maine – After the recent closure of the neighborhood staple Bar Publica, two of its former owners have turned the 4,000‑square‑foot space into a new bar called Lucky Sevens, set to open this Friday at 82 Hanover Street. The venue draws inspiration from a Dublin bar named 777 and aims to fill the area’s perceived need for a relaxed, community‑focused watering hole.
“We really like neighborhood bars,” said co‑owner Spencer Brantley. “After we closed Bar Publica, we were like, ‘This area needs a neighborhood bar.’”
The new establishment will accommodate up to 250 guests: 100 seats inside, another 100 on a rooftop patio and an additional 50 on a lower patio area. Brantley explained that the interior has been refreshed with new lighting, fresh paint and a few layout changes. “We’ve removed some banquettes to make room for a pool table, pinball machine, and arcade games,” he noted. A jukebox and a series of large‑screen televisions will also be available for patrons who want to catch a sports game.
The bar’s beverage menu is built around value. All draft beer is priced at five dollars, with a selection that includes Narragansett, Busch Light, Sierra Nevada, Fiddlehead and Tubular. Lucky Sevens will also offer a lineup of seven house cocktails, each priced at seven dollars. Food is kept simple and affordable: crinkle‑cut fries, grilled cheese on sourdough, and an Oklahoma‑style smash burger that features a tallow‑griddled patty pressed with shaved onions.
Hours are Monday‑through‑Sunday, with the venue open from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. The owners hope to become a go‑to spot for locals and visitors alike, providing a casual setting that blends classic bar staples with a touch of gaming nostalgia.
With its easy‑going vibe, affordable drinks, and new entertainment options, Lucky Sevens is positioned to carry on the neighborhood bar tradition that made Bar Publica a beloved fixture of Portland’s West Bayside.
