Live updates: Friday night’s Maine high school football action

Week 3 high school football: Friday night scores and highlights from across Maine
Friday night marked another full slate of high school football in Maine, with Week 3 games getting underway just after 6 p.m. and continuing into the evening. The night’s featured matchup saw Cony travel to Mt. Blue for a 7 p.m. kickoff, while other games brought key regional matchups and early-season statements.
At Mt. Blue, Cony built a 14-0 lead. The Cougars had a chance to cut into the deficit after recovering a fumble at their own 2-yard line, but Cony’s Ian Lasselle came up with an interception at the Mt. Blue 15 to swing momentum back in the Rams’ favor. Mt. Blue later took over at the Cony 15 in the third quarter after a snap sailed over the Rams’ punter, giving the Cougars another scoring opportunity.
In Portland, the Bulldogs led Windham 15-6 at the half. Portland’s David Gomes made his presence felt with a long run that pushed the Bulldogs into Windham territory, though the drive eventually stalled on fourth-and-long. Gomes later added a conversion run before halftime. Windham, which has one of the state’s more prolific passing attacks, spent the night playing from behind but remained within striking distance early.
Leavitt looked sharp against York, jumping out to a 15-0 lead. The Hornets added another touchdown and, after that second score, recovered the ensuing kickoff to keep the pressure on. They would add to their total later in the evening.
Elsewhere, Edward Little turned the ball over on downs in what was a busy opening half. In that same game, Vikings running back Keegan Ridley put together an impressive first half, carrying 15 times for 133 yards.
There were also notable performances around the state. Nathan Karkos took over at quarterback for Landon Marquis and scored on a 1-yard run, and the Rangers struck quickly out of a defensive stand, moving the ball downfield on their first play from scrimmage — a 62-yard touchdown run by Luke Piper.
As the night rolled on, several games entered their final quarters and the scoreboard continued to move. With Week 3 in the books, teams around Maine are beginning to find their identities in the middle of the regular season.
