Kittery enters eighth week of water restrictions amid ongoing drought

A town in Maine has announced new water‑use restrictions that will curb irrigation and certain personal applications of the municipal supply. The limits apply throughout the community and are effective immediately.
The restrictions specifically target water consumption for landscaping and other non‑essential personal uses. Residents will be unable to run hoses or operate sprinklers for lawns, gardens or other outdoor areas at the same volume as before. The town said that the restrictions are a temporary measure designed to preserve the water supply and ensure that essential services remain uninterrupted.
Town officials urged residents to adjust their habits and make use of water‑saving techniques such as mulching, rain barrels, and the installation of low‑flow fixtures. They also reminded citizens that the restrictions will remain in place until the water system reaches a sustainable level.
For more information, residents can contact the town’s water department or visit the city website, where details on the restrictions and best practices for conservation will be posted.
