Kentucky shocks LSU with second-straight walk-off two-point conversion win in overtime

Kentucky pulled off another overtime thriller Saturday, defeating LSU 35‑34 and becoming the first team in FBS history to win two consecutive overtime games by a single point. The Wildcats, who needed a two‑point conversion to beat South Carolina a week earlier, once again relied on a late two‑point attempt to secure the victory.
The game was a back‑and‑forth affair. Both quarterbacks threw for more than 200 yards: LSU’s Sam Leavitt completed 275 yards, while Kentucky’s Kenny Minchy accounted for 246. The teams entered the final quarter tied at 27‑27, and the deadlock held through the end of regulation.
LSU received the ball first in overtime. Leavitt connected on a 10‑yard pass, then scampered 15 yards for a touchdown, giving the Tigers a 34‑27 lead after Scott Starzyk’s extra point. The Kentucky offense responded with a 1‑yard touchdown run by CJ Baxter, but the Wildcats needed two points to stay alive. Coach Will Stein kept his unit on the field for the conversion attempt. After a pair of timeouts — one by LSU’s Lane Kiffin and one by Stein to erase a false start — Minchy found a gap and scored the two‑point conversion, sealing the 35‑34 win.
The victory marks the second consecutive week Kentucky has won on a two‑point conversion in overtime, a feat never before accomplished in the FBS. It also gives the Wildcats their second win of the season, while LSU suffers its second loss.
