Keep Pine Point safe and accessible to all | Letter
My husband and I are retired residents in Pine Point. We care deeply about the local parking situation here and want to help keep our beach community safe and welcoming.
All summer long, we enjoy watching families carry kids and beach gear toward the shore from the comfort of our porch. By supper time, we watch the steady Lobster Roll Parade heading to nearby restaurants. We always marvel at how well everyone makes their way: walkers, runners, stroller pushers, bicycles, golf carts and dogs share the narrow road margins with parked cars. Thankfully, we have never seen an accident.
Even so, safety can always be improved. I have often wondered if making Jones Creek Drive one-way and King Street one-way in the opposite direction during July and August would work. This change could open up space on Jones Creek Drive for foot traffic, beach wagons and bikers.
There may be practical reasons why this idea has not been tried yet. With that said, I share this simple thought. It might help keep Pine Point a safe and happy place for all who live here and all our visitors.
