Local Singer‑Songwriter Kat Logan to Headline Side Door Coffeehouse on Friday, Sept. 11

Brunswick, Maine – On the second Friday of September, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Brunswick will host the next edition of the Side Door Coffeehouse, a community‑run monthly gathering that brings local musicians and visitors together for music, conversation and good food. The event, scheduled for Friday, September 11, will feature singer‑songwriter and visual artist Kat Logan from nearby Wiscasset.

The evening will begin with an open‑mic sign‑up at 6:45 p.m., followed by a lineup of performers at 7:00 p.m. Logan’s set is slated to run from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tickets cost $12 for adults, while children 17 and under may enter free of charge.

Logan has performed throughout Maine and New England for more than three decades, building a reputation as a versatile soprano who can play piano, guitar and accordion with equal skill. “I’m a fan of Celtic, blues, ‘70s rock, Americana, folk, jazz standards and my own songs,” she told a recent interview. “I love the idea of sharing music that’s both familiar and fresh.” Her warmth and engaging stage presence have made her a regular favorite at the Side Door.

Her musical journey began in church. Logan first played the organ and directed choir, studying under Douglas Rafter of the University of Southern Maine’s Music Department. In the early 1990s she shifted toward folk music, collaborating with many of the state’s folk‑scene stalwarts. She appeared on several of guitarist Gordon Bok’s recordings, and designed the cover art for his CD Other Eyes. In 2012, Logan contributed to Singing Through the Hard Times, a Grammy‑nominated tribute album to the late Utah Philips.

Over the years she has performed with groups such as Driftwood, which mostly covered Kate Wolf’s songs, and Meteora—an ensemble that included Jim Loney and Will Brown. Today she performs as a solo artist, offering a mix of original compositions and beloved covers that showcase her broad musical palette.

The Side Door Coffeehouse itself is a volunteer‑run venue that welcomes both professional and amateur musicians. “The goal is to give people a relaxed place to share their talents and to bring the community together,” said one of the organizing volunteers. The coffeehouse meets every second Friday of the month, except August, and has become a staple of the Midcoast cultural scene.
