Jon Rahm drops gigantic F-bomb after missing a birdie putt in disastrous round at the US Open

Rahm's Frustrating Friday at Shinnecock Ends His U.S. Open Title Defense

Jon Rahm arrived at Shinnecock Hills this week looking to reclaim the trophy he won three years ago. After Thursday's opening round, the Spanish golfer had reason for cautious optimism. A two-under-par scorecard had him well-positioned heading into Friday's second round of the U.S. Open.

That momentum evaporated in a hurry.

Rahm's frustrations boiled over on the ninth hole, where a birdie putt slid just to the right of the cup. The 2021 U.S. Open champion responded by flipping his club and unleashing an expletive loud enough to draw attention from nearby spectators. The outburst, captured on video and widely shared on social media, captured the mood of a player fighting his game and losing.

The trouble didn't end there. Rahm managed to save par on the ninth, but the back nine brought more trouble. He bogeyed five consecutive holes, compounding earlier mistakes that included three bogeys on the front side. When the dust settled, Rahm had carded a 78, leaving him at six-over for the tournament and on the wrong side of the cut line.

For a player of Rahm's stature, the result marks a disappointing chapter in what has otherwise been a strong career on golf's biggest stages. His title defense ended not with a charge up the leaderboard, but with a long walk to the clubhouse and the knowledge that he would be heading home early.

Shinnecock Hills, a course with a long history of humbling even the game's best players, once again lived up to its reputation as one of the most demanding tests in championship golf. The challenging conditions, combined with Rahm's uncharacteristically shaky play, created a recipe for the kind of frustrating round that every golfer, professional or amateur, knows all too well.

Rahm has not publicly commented on his performance. He is expected to regroup before his next scheduled start, though he will have the weekend to process what went wrong at one of golf's most storied venues.
