Federal Agents Question Ilhan Omar’s Sister Amid Immigration‑Fraud Investigation

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Federal investigators from the Department of Homeland Security’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) questioned Sahra Noor, the older sister of U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar, last week in connection with a probe into Omar’s immigration paperwork. Noor, who lives in Kenya and is currently touring the United States to promote her new book, “Salt in the Snow: A Somali Immigrant Story,” voluntarily spoke with the investigators after a search of Omar’s Washington, D.C., residence on Monday morning.

The raid, conducted at approximately 6 a.m. on October 9, was carried out under a search warrant issued by HSI. According to sources familiar with the operation, the warrant was part of an investigation into whether Omar, or her father, provided false information when completing citizenship documents. If the allegations are proven, officials have warned that the outcome could include denaturalization of the congresswoman.

During the raid, HSI officers seized Omar’s personal phone, passport and computer. Her attorneys have publicly requested that the Justice Department return some of the items taken. In a statement posted to X (formerly Twitter) hours after the raid, Omar denounced the action as “an outrageous abuse of power” and “an unprecedented escalation in the weaponization of federal law enforcement to target political enemies.” She added that the “Congresswoman has done nothing wrong” and that “no president should be able to use the power of the federal government to intimidate his political enemies.”

The investigation has drawn subpoenas to about a dozen individuals connected to Omar, including family members. Omar herself has not been seen in public since the raid. Her husband has been photographed walking their dog and speaking with aides outside the home, but the congresswoman has remained out of the spotlight.

Sahra Noor had originally scheduled a stop at the University of Minnesota Rochester on October 15 as part of her book tour. The event was promoted by Garden Party Books, a local bookstore that had described itself as a “proud supporter” of the tour. The bookstore later announced that the tour was canceled because Noor had a “family emergency.” That statement was followed by reports that she had been questioned by federal agents.

In an interview with Fox News Digital on Tuesday, Vice President J.D. Vance said the investigation “is not politically motivated” and that the administration is focused on allowing the law to run its course. He added, “We don’t want to be like the Biden administration. We never want to be like that — where they would allow the law to go after their political opponents.”

No direct response has been received from Noor, Omar’s legal team, or the Department of Homeland Security since the raid. The investigation continues to unfold as federal authorities seek to determine whether any immigration fraud has occurred.
