ICE is beyond redemption | Letter

ICE is beyond redemption | Letter
100%

Over the past 19 months, ICE has amply demonstrated its contempt for common decency and the rule of law. Its agents routinely violate the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Eighth Amendments to the United States Constitution and similar parts of Maine’s own constitution.

On many occasions, it has arrested, detained and deported people who have every right to be here, including those who have served in our armed forces. It has torn children from their parents. On at least four occasions, it has committed homicide. There are people who have died in its custody. Its detention centers are concentration camps, which have no place in any free country. It works at the behest of a president who is a known felon, and who violates his own oath of office on a daily basis.

Its actions to date amply demonstrate that it is beyond redemption, and should be abolished. Rather than a law enforcement agency, it has become a criminal syndicate. Its presence in our country is entirely unacceptable.
